Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, a leading prestigious school with state-of-the-art facilities where nearly 100% of students go on to university or find employment. The students there have the freedom to wear any hairstyle and bring any personal effects they desire. Koudo Ikusei is a paradise-like school, but the truth is that only the most superior of students receive favorable treatment.
The protagonist Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is a student of Class D, which is where the school dumps its “inferior” students in order to ridicule them. For a certain reason, Kiyotaka was careless on his entrance examination and was put in Class D. After meeting Suzune Horikita and Kikyou Kushida, two other students in his class, Kiyotaka’s situation begins to change.

Side Stories
Side Stories are mostly translated by my friend Alice over on his own website. Find them here!
I will just be honest. And I’m not trying to be rude here.
I used to check back on every 2 or 3 days or so a year ago and get excited for a new chapter or part to come out.
It really used to excite me waiting for a new part to translate. But now these days the progress has been soo slow that I have forgotten what even happens in this book. My excitement has dried down too and now I just check occasionally per month only to still see no progress at all
I know you are doing this for free and I know you have a life too but I still wanted to let you know about my feelings. And im pretty sure most of others feel that way too even tho they don’t say it out loud out of trying not to sound rude. But at the same time there is no one else. Most of us can’t read Japanese and can’t buy the real books
My suggestion is why don’t you let someone else translate for you instead. I seen other names in the TL credits too.

I think this is fair, but honestly I do this for myself more than I do it for all of you. I really don’t want to frustrate my readers but I have to be practical and find a balance. It’s just how it goes.

Thank u for your work!
But don’t you want to be paid for the translation?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Not really? This is more of a hobby than it is a job. I would never want to translate for a living.

Dude don’t even stress about it. You’re really helping us out, and I hope that us enjoying and appreciating your work is at least something. Besides, I follow another translator team that works on Majikoi, and thos guys take 4 years to finish one game. Compared to them, you work at lightning speed.

I think it also because this volume is quite boring, there is 400 people fighting on island and I think a lot of space is wasted on boring encounters. Also there is this whole thing with unreliable narrator combined author who tries to come everytime with more complicated, even incomprehensible, exam rules where everything is explained magically at the end kills whole enjoyment from reading.

Hey @Graze, Just asking… are you planning to translate next volume as well i.e Y2V4.5? Don’t want to pressure you or anything, its just your translations are really good and I am happy to wait as long as it takes… if you yourself are going to translate the next volume as well. Otherwise, I will just read edited MTL.

I won’t be translating V4.5. I will likely move on to V5 or wait for V6 before continuing depending on who is working on what.

“This part is boring, I just can’t keep up with this” – My former self as a translator
I couldn’t help that you have already lost your passion to translate this Light Novel.
I would say that if the content is good, although the pacing of the translation is slow, I feel nothing whatsoever when I read when a new part is released. I hope that the future content will be better especially toward the end of this volume or everything will fall apart. It is not surprising at all that Graze can’t keep up.
Youkoso sparked me up with volume 7 especially the interaction between class C and class D.
Ryuen is very remarkable and attractive, his way of fighting and how the plot conveys through Kei was amazing.
Volume 9 was quite good, although, I would say Nagumo and Ichinose are not the same levels as Ryuen. However, daily activity as well as an interaction to those two including Horikita’s brother is refreshing to me.
Sakayanagi’s battle during volumes 10-11 is okay I guess. She does not live up to my expectation at all as a mastermind, but her interaction and past background with Kiyo make up for it.
2nd year? Bruh.
Other than Ichika Amasawa that intrude Kiyo’s room several times. Every character that has been introduced is heavily disappointing. Hosen is a child compared to Ryuen. Tsubasa Nanase’s fight with Kiyo is a mere childish play. I would say the plot related to the white room is quite weak up until this point.
Exam formation
I wouldn’t complain much about the exam formation of Youkoso as it never impress me even once.
For instance, Volume 11 makes me curious about how each sport and math team will perform and how each character will plan according to their classmate. Volumes 4 makes me try to guess who is the one that secretly hides their identity on the ship.
This volume is even worse than the Volume 3 format on the island. Whoever run faster win, we got some spontaneous events that randomly happen without any proper story. Swim? Oh, this girl is good at it she wins. Math? Oh, this guy is good at it, he wins. No strategy, Just try to go for an early bird.
If you have any disagreement, feel free to reply and debate with me politely. I would like to have a proper conversation with any men or women of culture anyway.
However, We can only hope for Graze would sustain a status quo of at least 2 chapters a month.

Hard to disagree, Ryuen class lost all teeth when Kiyo tamed Ruyen and Ishizaki.
Exam rules are illogical sometimes, but that doesn’t matter when MC is performing all actions literally behind the scenes (and pages). Knowing this pattern spoils enjoyment a little, I think it wouldn’t hurt if MC would share some of his real thoughts. It shows especially in this exam, I’m not editor but I think a lot of pages could be used more effectively.
Even romance part was killed almost instantly, which is a thing community seems to overlook, when Kiyo foreshadowed in ending of 11.5 that he’s merely manipulating Kei and have plans already to break up with her in order to help her growth. Kinda expected from kid raised in lab but still it’s a downer.

I feel like the bounty on Ayanokouji ruined a lot of the good things this story had going for it. Before there was always a focus on the face-off against one particular character (max three), which made the entire thing more intimate. Right now first year, second year & third year all have their eyes on Ayanokouji which just forces the author to reduce the amount of attention he gives to each character. It doesn’t give the author the time anymore to give us the pov of how a character is gradually laying the foundation for their plan. Strategies and tactics get smeared out more thinly which makes them feel hollow compared to the strategies of the earlier volumes.
It’s also clear the charm of the first year characters is their strong personalities. Author went with strong flavors here, but not with a meal that is fulfilling. Getting to class A is THE aim of third years and second years, but that one unbending drive has completely evaporated (in my eyes) within the first year. Students fought for the leader position which, as we know from examples as Arisu & Nagumo, at least took them a year to oust all the opposition. Meanwhile all first-years are docile girls & boys that do everything the main first-year characters want them to do. In the meantime we’re seeing how some classmates of Ryuen still can’t accept him and jump on every possibility to oppose him. But I should believe all first-years are of one mind in their actions… It just feels too staged with times.
The intimate psychological clashes between characters have been getting more superficial as well.

Damn, I thought you stopped. it’s been hard catching up/remembering what all the millions of new and old characters are up to so I thought I’d stop until the volume is finished and read it all at once, rip.
Appreciate the work though, it might be the only work we see on the novel for the next few years 😀
